Artist Statement
I use the traditional technique of hand forging to create jewellery and small items of silverware. I take inspiration from the way the metal changes under the different blows of the hammer, which I use to my advantage when designing.
In some jewellery pieces, hammer marks are retained and highly polished in order to create a glittering effect. In others, the silver is forged into an S curve and the surface is satinised and freshwater pearls are added to create a feminine and sophisticated look.
In contrast, I want the items of silverware to be more finished so hammer marks are worked out to leave a smooth, stylish surface. I feel they are more appropriate as contemporary objects on the table where they enhance and inspire modern living.
New work will include larger pieces of silverware using techniques such as raising and spinning. I will also be launching a new jewellery range in 2008 which will feature diamonds and silver.
I accept commissions in silver and gold for both jewellery and items of small silverware.
