Artist's Statement
Hee Young Kim, who grew up in Korea and is now based on London after graduating Jewellery design BA (Hons) at Central Saint Martins Hee is inspired by her daily life surroundings. Arranging contents and knowing that everything is neatly in place has always given her a sense of satisfaction. This characteristic translates into understated structures such as straight lines, clean joints with 90 degree angles and small hidden spaces in her hand crafted work. Furthermore, Hee has combined this with constructed shapes from several layers to transform more curiosities to satisfy her innate creativity. The unexpected scenes witnessed through these spaces will give the wearer multifarious imaginings.Hee has explored both the harmony and sense of curiosity in such small spaces. The hidden spaces of the pieces represent the private, secret spaces everyone has, implying mysteryand intrigue.
