Artist's Statement
With open eyes and open mind Jelka Quintelier wants to stretch the boundaries of jewellery design and renew the way we think about adornment.
Under the name Black Lune Jelka designs laser cut rubber jewellery. Inspired by visual patterns and striking scenes that cross her path, which she captures with photography. She then translates those photographs into paper cut-outs that form the basis for her digital drawings. The pieces are laser cut out of EPDM rubber and neoprene. The industrial roofing rubber and the wetsuit material are transformed into captivating, easy to wear adornment that plays an interesting game between the 2D and 3D world.
