About the Artist
Louise Chesshire’s work strongly references the plant world. Her unique flower units comprise hand pierced silver tubing soldered into intricate patterns. These versatile lattice-like constructions been developed into jewellery and small silverware, by varying both arrangements and scale. Telescopic tube allows denser flowers to be created, and most pieces are made almost entirely from varying sizes of tubing which has been manipulated or fitted together to create beautiful and functional structures.
Louise also creates elegant silver Leaf Spoons which have a fold formed spine running along the entire length of the spoon, giving it strength, as well as being tactile and referencing the leaf which inspired it. These will be exhibited alongside new jewellery and silverware pieces inspired by this technique.
Louise studied for Ba(hons) Metalwork and Jewellery atSheffieldHallamUniversityfrom 2002 – 2005. At the end of her degree, she was commissioned to make a piece for the Assay Master at Sheffield Assay Office. She then completed a year long residency at the Bishopsland Workshops , where she continued to develop her practice as a jeweller and silversmith. Her Urchin vessel won a Silver Award in the 2006 Goldsmiths' Craft & Design Council Craftmanship & Design Awards. She has exhibited with ‘Dazzle’ at the National Theatre in London, and featured on the Springboard stand for emerging makers at Origin in 2006. In 2008, her Guipure Vases have been shortlisted for the Thomas Lyte Modern Heirtage Award.
Louise is based in Herefordshire, and supplies galleries around the UK. She is happy to discuss special commissions.
