ARTIST'S STATEMENT
As an artist and jeweller, Soizig Carey’s investigations concentrate principally on identifying and translating narratives, whether they are based on reality or the imaginary. Thus building new found relationships between an object and viewer, or a piece and wearer. The requirement for context out with and within Soizig’s work is essential, deriving from inspirations such as personal and cultural referencing, architecture, travel and photography. Every beginning and process of Soizig’s design is deliberated, to achieve purpose and value in both concept and physicality. However for every consideration in Soizig’s work there is a conflicting disregard for what is precious in the conventional sense and she makes no apologies in expressing this. Soizig works predominantly in metal and includes other media such as plastics when appropriate to the design, producing large scale sculptural objects and body pieces. Soizig is fascinated by both peoples’ visceral and cognitive responses and has recently come to research and discuss this through the application of film, sound and photography in her work
