For me, the design of an object is inextricably involved with the making process, and I like this to be discernable in the completed piece. Hence my love of forging. The symbiosis between idea and form; the repitition of the hammer defining the shape, creates a uniquely subtle surface which cannot be reproduced by any other means
Some pieces are simple, relying on their form and tactile appeal. While others are built up in an organic repitition of similar forms, linked in such a way as to give the final piece an almost animal movement. In some cases the surface is accentuated through patination, etching or tool-marking.
I hope to create something that sits lightly, comfortable and precious, as a touch stone in life's rituals.
My work is shown and sold in England, Scotland, Wales, Amsterdam, France, New York, Tokyo and California.
