Artists statement
Working mainly in silver using a self-developed hand-coiling technique, Daniela creates versatile jewellery designed around the spiral form. Her ‘Spiral Collection’ combines design innovation with elegance and adaptability for the wearer. As well as its aesthetics, the spiral’s physical properties provide for innovative functional elements, such as unique clasps and fittings, which are integral features of the jewellery. The designs reflect a desire to reveal the spiral’s full potential through ongoing exploration of the form. Daniela creates small quantities and limited editions, as well as unique pieces designed and made for individual clients and collectors. Her spiral neckpieces and bracelets can be made in alternative sizes and finishes to suit personal taste. Commissions in gold are undertaken.
Daniela trained at the College of Art and Design in her home city of Prague, then continued her studies in 3D Design/Jewellery at Richmond College of Art, where she later became an artist in residence. She now lives and works in Ascot, Berkshire.
A range of interlocking spiral pendants on snake chains (each individual). Silver, oxidized silver, 14ct & 18ct gold. Silver award winner in ‘Fashion Jewellery’ at the 2005 Goldsmith's Craftsmanship and Design Awards. The suite of jewellery that received the award comprises these pendants and a multiple link necklace based on the same design. The pendants have a unique adjustable fitting - the central spiral part can be positioned as desired, staying in place due to friction against the chain, avoiding the need for a clasp.
