Artist's Statement
Emma Morris is a Glasgow based contemporary jeweller, designer and maker who utilises a playful and tactile approach to making and thinking. Play is a concept which carries through from her inspiration to her making process and final pieces. Inspiration is drawn from both playground climbing frames and children’s squish play toys, such as balloons, that morph when a tactile pressure is applied to them. Hand fabricating is important in her practice to keep a tactile connection with her work.
Emma's work is visually playful, the bubbling and 'squishy' forms she creates invite a childlike temptation to touch. She incorporates vibrant and playful colours to her work through powdercoating, this is a process used to mimic the finish of climbing frames. Jesmonite and brass are the other materials that are mainly used in her work. Through combining materials and techniques, Emma creates visually playful and tactile jewellery.
