Artist's Statement
Katie’s focus is on creating dynamic forms which play with light and perspective. She draws on her fascination with natural patterns and structures and takes inspiration from her surroundings, "I grew up close to the sea in Aberystwyth and have always found the light on the water to be hypnotic and calming, I try to capture that feeling, along with a sense of intrigue in my work. Making the complex appear simple is my continual challenge”. By harnessing the natural properties of precious metals, Katie has developed highly innovative techniques which she applies to form refined sculptural pieces that catch the light and accentuate movement.
Silver and gold are used throughout her work, often accenting silver with 18ct and gold, oxidisation and pattern. Katie has won awards both for her innovative designs and technical making skills.
