Artist's statement
Kinley hand made jewellery.
Kinley jewellery is designed and made in Oxfordshire by Laura Williams. She uses sterling silver and 18ct gold in an award winning innovative technique to create unique sculptural jewellery that is bold yet feminine. The pieces have a contemporary urban finish on a background of classic fine jewellery shapes and are made using traditional hand tools and techniques.
Laura says, "Every piece of Kinley jewellery is designed and made in my Oxfordshire workshop with my own hands. I believe in using traditional metals and gemstones to make lasting pieces of beautiful jewellery. I enjoy creating sculptural forms from wire and love to bring a contemporary urban edge to a traditional fine jewellery shape. I work hard to achieve a high quality finish on my work but also enjoy allowing some marks and unrefined aspects that speak of the hands and harsh processes involved in the making. I find inspiration in architecture, everyday objects and jewellery of the past".
Kinley jewellery currently offers 3 complementary collections, Grid, Dot and Line.
Grid range offers an exciting twist on tradtional fine jewellery and is characterised by the use of multiple wires soldered end on to a back sheet which are then filed to create a new surprisingly tactile plane. The aesthetic is contemporary and bold whilst maintaining a classic note.
Dot collection grew from using the off cuts of gold and silver from the Grid wires. They have been melted and shaped in to delicate discs to create a small scale everyday collection and are accented with colourful small precious stones.
Line collection stems from Laura's love of clean lines, geometric shapes and pattern and includes co-ordinating rings, pendants and bangles that can be embellished with small stones or diamonds.
