About Miranda
Miranda started her professional practice designing and making contemporary jewellery in 2001 and has exhibited and sold her work widely across the UK and ventured into the international market place. After studying for an MA at the Birmingham School of Jewellery, Miranda launched her business from the Jewellery Quarter becoming a part of the vibrant making community there.
Miranda’s jewellery ranges have been inspired heavily by the natural world, with recent inspiration exploring matter that evokes strong emotional responses. Personal work draws on microscopic imagery of bacteria and disease, finding beauty through the form and colours of these images.
Miranda explores form, composition and colour application through a combination of drawing and material experimentation to reach design conclusions.
Miranda currently works predominantly with precious metals and vitreous enamels with the odd splash of semi-precious and precious stones. Miranda’s collections combine a range of repeatable items with limited edition and one-off pieces, vitreous enamels are used throughout but the one-off pieces explore enamelling techniques in greater depth. Enamelling is a time consuming practice of layering finely ground glass and firing it in a kiln; often grinding back layers for a smooth surface or to reveal the layers of colour or pattern. The techniques employed by Miranda include: wet laying, sieving, painting enamels, cloisonné and scraffito.
