About Robyn McLean
My work primarily concentrates on the relationship between the mind and the body. My collection strives to address the experience and affect of pain: psychological and physical, creating a tangible, personal representation of this concept. This is done through representing the body and the mind through my choice of unconventional materials. The use of bone in my work reflects the body and the concept and aesthetic of the Rorschach or Inkblot test relates to the mind.
Materials play an imperative role in my practice - often the shape of the bone I choose to use can dictate the outcome of my pieces. I am very much interested in portraying the beauty that can be found in the shape, varying textures and patterns in specific bones. The use of resin and silk thread enables me to introduce subtle colour into my work, allowing me to convey my ideas more successfully.
