Artist's Statement
Cally recently graduated from the University of Derby completeing a BA (Hons) Craft, specialising in Metalwork and Jewellery. Her main choice of materials is recycled metal wires and objects as well as pre-fab components such as Nails, Washers, Tacs and Woodstaples. She uses these materials to create dramatic, theatrical and exaggerated versions of jewellery forms. Her work is inspired by fairytales and tall stories, inparticular the sinister elements within these tales, she does this by adding materials to her work such as Porcelain and Enamel to create a contrast in Colour and Texture to emphasize Light and Shade, representing Good and Evil. As well as imagery, Cally also looks at the text of the stories, using a line or a chapter title as an idea for a piece.
