Artist's statement
'Being brought up in London's East End, my tastes in colours and aesthetics have formed through being surrounded by a multitude of cultures and the urban city. Inspired by the patterns and forms that I see in my native environment, I strive to create intricate fine jewellery that are luxuriously exciting and imbued with a sense of playfulness. Using colourful stones and the ancient technique of lost wax casting, the jewellery combines the old and the new – and will hopefully stand the test of time.’
Ciara's journey towards being a jewellery designer started from a very early age. Making things and understanding how things are made was always a fascination. By the age of 13 she had gathered together a collection of tools and had started making jewellery out of wire, drinks cans and beads. After graduating from Edinburgh College of Art in 2012, she went on to find her feet in the London Jewellery district of Hatton Garden.
The Symbols collection draws on the shapes and symbols that are recognisable in everyday life; circles, squares, triangles, hearts, stars. Combining these shapes to create patterns, imbuing the designs with personality and meaning that will connect differently to each wearer. The pieces are designed to stack and link together, creating new shapes and stories of their own.
Each piece of jewellery is made in Ciara’s East London studio with the sustainable future of the jewellery in mind. Working with reputable suppliers to source recycled gemstones from unworn jewellery and using recycled gold, the Symbols collection is a capsule collection responding to the materials available and the designers love of pattern and clashing colours.
