About Isabella Bedlington
What makes us human? Isabella is drawn to the uniqueness of the human ability to conceptualise something we have no proof of. What happens after death? She was drawn to the beautiful strangeness of the ideology, the idea that, as humans, we can spend much of the life we are living preparing or thinking about the next. Her artistic exploration delves into contemplating the afterlife's significance within the human experience. The genesis of her creative journey finds its roots in a jade ring-shaped object known as Bi, an ancient artefact from Chinese heritage that historically assisted departed souls on their journey to the afterlife.
Her jewellery embodies the torus' cyclic form; this curvaceous, compelling shape symbolises the perpetual cycle of life throughout history in many different cultures.
She uses jewellery as her medium, as it roots itself within the core of her very human concept. The afterlife is often something we carry with us through tradition, religion, family or self. Isabella's torus jewellery enables the wearer to embrace its narrative through the body, through touch, through its weight, and its presence, acting as a kind of talisman to what it means to be human.
