About Kathryn
The jewellery I create is inspired by the line shape and texture of various organic forms, in particular flowers. This inspirational force, underpinning my design ideal, is a dynamic process that is developed as a natural expression of my drawings and paintings. Both media symbiotically support each other so that my creative intention is expressed in a variety of forms. The simple delineation of line to capture form, which is a fundamental of my drawings, is a design quality of my jewellery. It is through the intricate use of a variety of materials that I aspire to capture the simplicity of the organic forms which are my inspiration. The materials I use include silver, enamel, ebony, pearls and precious stone. The combination of these materials allows me to experiment with a wide range of textures and colours which is important to my work as I look to incorporate the vibrant qualities found in flower gardens.
In some of my work I have explored the way the natural form of flowers is contained within the man-made construction of flower beds. I find the polemic between the freedom of natural, organic form and the constraining structures of the urban environment a challenging and fruitful area of inspiration and development.
