LYNDSAY CHEYNE

Artist's Statement

In my current body of work I take inspiration from the past focusing on historical tradition found in island culture. Through experimentation of delicate patterns found in nature and tradition I adapt this into wearable forms.

Currently I am using disregarded found materials such as sheep bone and non-precious metal to create detailed structures that reflect on my personal journey of discovering local history and techniques such as traditional Shetland lace making. Using the method of photo-etching I can recreate the fragility of lace in metal, manipulating it into more durable structures.

Patinas play a strong part in my work focusing on the ageing and development of material surfaces over time adding a personal historical narrative
