Artist's Statement
When I first encountered titanium I was intruiged and excited by it's properties which seemed alchemical and demanded new approaches to respond creatively to its' qualities. Three decades on I am still exploring it's possibilities. New processes like fine welding are facilitating combinations with other metals, and allowing the creation of new forms that seemed quite improbable previously.
Elements of my forms are inspired by the sculptures of Richard Serra, and colour and textures in Clarissa Galliano's paintings. The poise and sense of imminent motion in the work of Brancusi and Matisse's oceania have inspired others
