BELINDA FERRETTER

My Work

Having developed something of a fascination with metal and its possibitities for manipulation, I completed a BA Hons degree and went on to work for a number of blacksmiths and sculptors.
Now in my own workshop, I aim to transform metal, an inherently cold, hard, heavy material into delicate, fluid, almost ephemeral objects. The contradiction that this presents is a major component in my work: the making of elegant, light, airy forms from such a sturdy, resilient material.

I strive to combine sculpture with function, in pieces that are both practical and aesthetic. I feel that within an industrial, mass-produced age, hand crafted items have a very valuable quality of their own.

All of my work is hand-forged, predominantly from mild steel but with some use of copper, aluminium and stainless steel. I produce one-off, original designs for interiors and external use.
