Artists Statement
Deirdre has shown with Dazzle since 1985.She originally trained as a stage designer at the Central School of Art and Design, and in 1998 won a QEST scholarship to study couture millinery. Her work is sold and widely exhibited in the UK and abroad.Her work is in the permanent collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, The Kyoto Costume Institute, Japan, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, USA and the Hat Museum UK.Most of her pieces are one off, although sometimes a piece is repeated using a similar theme, but each one is individual and can require several fittings.Deirdre's work is exquisitely crafted using a variety of silks all of which are hand dyed and sewn.The headpieces are witty evocations, often exploring the ambiguous attitude of woman to food.
