About Eleanor Whitworth
In Eleanor's recent collection titled 'Together Living' she made wearable pieces that sought to celebrate some of the intricate symbiotic relationships alive in the natural world, many of them unobserved or misunderstood. She was inspired by instances of this including the relationship between ants and aphids, cleaner fish and larger marine animals, and fungi and algae in lichens, observing the fragile and intricate interactions in these special relationships.
In order to create pieces that are delicate yet wearable, a laser welder is used to make microscopic joins between multiple components.
In Eleanor’s work, diverse materials are applied to mimic these instances of symbiosis. The consideration of tactility and light in each piece is intended to invoke a cuirosity in the viewer that reveals more than initially meets the eye.
Eleanor was the recipient of the New Designers Goldsmiths Centre Jewellery Award in June 2019.
