Artist’s statement
Goodman Morris is the husband and wife team of Alex Goodman and Nicola Morris. We produce bold, simple, sculptural work in precious metals that is comfortable to wear, well crafted, and works with the body. Nicola particularly enjoys working with large cabochon gemstones, enjoying the subtle inclusions of each gem material, as they add a unique identity and character. I like experimenting with the mechanics of jewellery, for example stripping clasps back to their simplest form. Recently I have been using diamonds as rivets so that they perform a function as well as adding sparkle.
In 2001 I opened a shop with my husband called Goodman Morris in the historic lanes of Brighton. We sell our own work alongside some of the best makers in the U.K. and abroad including Niessing, Sonia Cheadle, John Richardson, Poppy Dandiya and Diana Porter. I have also taught a jewellery making evening class for many years. I have a passion for contemporary jewellery and good design that answers practical questions.
