JENNIFER URQUHART

About the artist

Construction is an integral theme in my jewellery.  Scaffolding and cranes act as a starting point from which I take inspiration from the industrial environment they are a part of.  I utilize non precious materials such as coloured rubber cord and stainless steel wire alongside precious metals, such as silver and gold tube to bring a sense of fragility and elegacne to objects which are associated with being unattracctive and invasive.

Line ia an important feature in my work; I aim for my pieces to have a drawn quality which I transfer directly from my drawings.  Delicate movement within my work enforces my desire to incorporate fragility, this results in the piece having a feeling of spontaneity as the movement if often unpredictable.  I enjoy working with a combination of precious and non precious materials, their contrasting qualities is something which stimulates me.
