Artist's statement
This new range of deliciously irreverent jewellery draws attention to the simplest pleasures in life. In this age of austerity we must look to the humble things that make us happy, and we must celebrate them with reckless abandon. Inspiration comes from a combination of food photographs gathered from my own travels over the years, from the artisan boulangerie of rural France to the towering fruit stalls at Vancouver’s Granville Island, and the multi’coloured gelateria of Sardinia, and also from vintage cookbooks collected from charity shops and online auctions.
Rebecca multi-disciplinary background is evident in her making, with precious metals and gemstones sitting comfortably alongside incongruous additions of dipped rubber, recyled ice cream spoons, piped porcelain and found objects cast in porcelain and bone china.
Rebeccas previous career as a ceramicist has seen her exhibit in many high profile exhibitions both in the UK and abroad, including most recently SOFA in Chicago, the Trienalle Museum of Design in Milan, COLLECT at the Saatchi Gallery, London, and with fashion photograher Nick Knight's SHOW Studio Gallery, also in London
