About Sam Holmes
Sam's work investigates the close connection between nature and the craft of jewellery creation. Stepping outside of the usual workshop and into varied natural surroundings allows Sam to produce sculptures that are directly inspired by the landscapes and elements around him. Each work is handcrafted on-site, in settings ranging from tranquil riverbanks to harsh cliff faces, enabling the environment to influence both the design and the method.
The method is as organic as the settings themselves—weather conditions, time of day, and even the textures of the surroundings influence the final output, resulting in jewellery that is not only one-of-a-kind but also emotionally related to the location where it was created. Sam's work captures the essence of these natural environments, with each piece expressing the beauty, challenges, and unpredictability of the surroundings. Through this method, Sam hopes to bridge the gap between art and environment by providing wearable works that communicate a story about place and presence.
Sam Holmes graduated from Manchester School of Art in 2024.
